Mental Health & Organization

May marks Mental Health Month! 💗

It's a perfect time to take a moment and reflect on the ways in which we can improve our overall well-being. While there are many different approaches to achieving better mental health, one that often gets overlooked is the state of our living space.

A clean and organized home can have a surprisingly significant impact on our mental health, and as a professional organizer, I've seen firsthand just how transformative this can be. ☺️

The benefits of an organized and clean home extend far beyond just having a tidier space to live in. Research has shown that clutter and disorganization can have a negative impact on our mental health in a number of ways.

For starters, it can create feelings of stress and anxiety.

👉🏼 When our living space is cluttered, it can be overwhelming to try to navigate it and find what we need. This can lead to a sense of frustration and feeling like we're not in control of our environment.

👉🏼 On the other hand, having an organized space can create a sense of calm and control. When everything has a designated place and is easy to find, we can relax and enjoy our surroundings more.

In addition to reducing stress, having an organized home can also lead to better sleep. Studies have shown that a messy bedroom can interfere with our ability to get a good night's rest. 😴 This is because our brain associates clutter with unfinished tasks, which can keep us up at night worrying about what needs to be done. By contrast, a clean and tidy bedroom can help us feel more relaxed and ready to sleep. 🛌

Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of an organized home is that it can improve our mood and overall well-being. 😌 When our living space is clean and tidy, we're more likely to feel positive and happy. This is because our environment has a direct impact on our mood. When we're surrounded by chaos and clutter, it can be difficult to feel calm and content. But when our space is organized and clean, it can have a soothing and uplifting effect on our mental state.
